2014 FAFA Holiday Showcase


The Florence Falcon Theatre Department and Florence Academy of Fine Arts Fashion Design Students competed at the Alabama State Thespian Festival on January 17th and 18th.  They were awarded the following accolades:

1st Place Solo Musical Female- Sara Maner
1st Place Duet Musical- April Hornbuckle and Logan Hill-Walker
1st Place Costume Construction- Sarah Mathews
1st Place Group Improvisation- Landon Montgomery, Abbey Murgatroyd, Anna Catherine Richardson, Kendall Stansell, and Hannah Smith

3rd Place Chapter Select One Act Competition- The Cast of Competition Piece

Best Actress Alabama Thespian Chapter Select One Act- Charlee Beth Haddock

$1,500 Alabama State Thespian Scholarship Winner- April Hornbuckle

The following events received superiors and qualified to move on to the International Thespian Competition this June at the University of Nebraska:

Congratulations to the following students for selection for publication in the next Celebrating Arts Magazine.  These students were selected from participants nationwide: Stephanie White, Amy Yu,  Anna Robertson,  Corey Crane,  Dwayne Geter,  Whitney Claunch,  Mary Geer Dethero,  Kelsey King,  Berenice Gonzalez,  Austin Keehn,  Ben Schoenbachler, and Luke Eckl.

Florence Falcon Theatre Senior Michael Asher is featured in the trailer for the new novel A Whistle in the Night by local artist Darren Butler.  He will also be featured on the cover of the novel that is being released December 1st.

Congratulations to Nicholas Watts, Florence High School student, who has been chosen to perform at Carnegie Hall in February of 2014!!!  Nick will be performing with the finest high school musicians, nationally and internationally, at Carnegie Hall in New York! His acceptance to this elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication, and achievements that he has demonstrated in mastering his craft as a musician.  


Mrs. Jane Powell and Mrs. Rebecca Rockhill, choral teachers for Florence City Schools, are planning an honor choir event for grades 5-12.   Paul Gulsvig, who came to FMS/FFC to speak to the teachers and students last year, will be the clinician for the event.  In addition to providing a positive influence for all who are privileged to be in his presence, Mr. Gulsvig is a wonderful musician and is in high demand throughout the country as a clinician.

Daniel Lewey placed third in the state Alabama Wildlife Art Competition
 

Congratulations to David Marsh for earning the following scholarships to Auburn University

  • Robert James Malone Music Scholarship - $6,000, over 4 years. (Award was based on string bass audition for the Auburn University/Community Orchestra.)
     

  • Spirit of Auburn Presidential Scholarship for academic excellence. (Tuition, plus a one-time $1000 technology stipend)
     

  • McGlamery Engineering Scholarship. He was also accepted into the Honors College at Auburn.
